E. Paragraph 1: This paragraph is usually only one or two sentences long, and is also referred to as the "statement of purpose." In this paragraph you should state:
- Your reason for writing the letter.
- The position for which you are applying.
For example:
I am writing to apply for the job of seasonal groundskeeper.
It's best not to open with anything too fancy or informal– a clear, well-written statement says much more in your favor than a cute gimmick.
F. Paragraph 2: This section includes information about why you are interested in the job, how the job fits into your plans, and how qualified you are for the job.
For example:
Last summer I managed a grounds crew for a local company. I enjoy working outdoors, and I feel my experience could make a positive contribution to your company.
In the preceding paragraph, the applicant has not only mentioned specific relevant experience, he has also shown he's a team player showing he understands the company's needs.
G. Paragraph 3: In the final paragraph it is advisable to thank the employer for his/her time, to make a final comment, and to bring to the employer's attention any other information that's relevant to the job.
Thanks for your time and consideration, I look forward to speaking with you.
Many like to include a reference to meeting the person (i.e. at an interview), and it certainly can't hurt.
H. Closing: This is filled out for you automatically with "Sincerely, Your Name.
That's it. Now you understand cover letters and more about how A+ Summer Jobs can help you manager the application process.
