An employee at Yellowstone's Hamilton Stores concessionaire. |
As an alternative to working directly for the National Park Service, working for a concessionaire is an excellent way to spend a paid summer in a national park. Working for a concessionaire provides an option for those who may have missed the National Park Service's application deadline (and many people do!)
Concessionaires are private companies that operate in the national parks. They provide services which range from guided tours to food service and lodging. Private companies provide these services so that the Park Service doesn't have to hire tens of thousands of summer employees (in addition to the tens of thousands they already hire). The National Parks allow the concessionaires to do this part of their work for them. We suggest that you apply to these concessionaires as early as you can, since the early bird gets the worm. But even in mid-summer, concessionaires continue to hire workers. We have listed the major concessionaires in the country below.
