While the Alaskan State Parks Volunteer Program is by far the smallest volunteer program listed here, with under 100 positions opening per summer, this program offers a distinctive opportunity for those of you with the desire to see the really out of the way parts of Alaska. Alaska's State Park Service treats these positions as internships, so they are looking for people with a background in the sciences or resource management.
Positions are available in the following areas:
Interpretive Rangers - these workers educate the public about the history and biology in Alaskan state parks.
Ranger Assistants - these workers assist full-time park rangers do things from maintain trails to collecting fees for camping. There are also trail crew positions for those wanting to deal exclusively with issues surrounding the use and upkeep of trails.
Back Country Rangers - these workers patrol remote areas of the park and lend assistance to visitors.
